Why Worcester Bosch is the UK's most-fitted boiler
Worcester Bosch sells roughly one in three new domestic boilers in the UK, which is a staggering number when you consider how crowded the market has become. The reason is partly heritage — Worcester has been building boilers in Worcestershire since 1962 — and partly the fact that the German Bosch parent company funds genuinely class-leading R&D. The current Greenstar 2000, 4000 and 8000 ranges share an aluminium-silicon heat exchanger that's been refined over four product generations, and parts availability is the best in the industry. If a Worcester ever does fail outside our area, every single merchant in the UK stocks the spares; with some of the cheaper Continental brands, that's simply not the case. For a homeowner planning to be in their property for ten or more years, that long-term serviceability is worth real money.
The Greenstar range explained
The Greenstar 2000 is the entry-level combi — a no-nonsense 25 or 30 kW boiler with a simple LED display, designed for landlords, smaller homes and tighter budgets. It carries a 7-year guarantee as standard and is genuinely excellent value at around £1,895 fully fitted. Step up to the Greenstar 4000 and you get a colour LED display, slightly better hot-water flow rates, integrated frost protection and an 8 to 10-year guarantee depending on output. The flagship Greenstar 8000 Life and 8000 Style come in 30, 35, 45 and 50 kW outputs, look the part in white or black, and qualify for the full 12-year guarantee when fitted with a Bosch system filter and registered on the day of installation. The 8000 Style 35 kW is our single most-fitted boiler — it suits 90% of three and four-bed homes in Chorley.
What we love (and the few niggles)
Day-to-day, Worcester Bosch boilers are quiet, sensibly laid out for servicing, and the Wave / EasyControl smart thermostats are some of the better OpenTherm-compatible controls on the market. The 8000 range modulates down to 1:10, which means it can run gently on milder days rather than cycling on and off — that's better for efficiency and component life. Our minor gripes: the Greenstar 2000 is noticeably noisier than the 4000 and 8000, the diverter valves on older 25Si and 28i Junior models can stick (although the new range has redesigned them), and Worcester is rarely the cheapest sticker price. But on a five-year ownership cost, factoring in fewer breakdowns and easier parts, they almost always come out ahead.
