The single-heat-exchanger advantage
Almost every combi boiler on the UK market uses two heat exchangers — a primary one for the central heating and a secondary plate exchanger for hot water — linked by a motorised diverter valve that switches between the two. Diverter valves are the single most common failure point on a modern combi. Intergas redesigned the whole thing in the 1990s around one patented copper/aluminium heat exchanger that does both jobs at once. The Xclusive is Intergas's mainstream combi and comes in 24, 30, 36 and 42 kW outputs with a clear digital display, OpenTherm and weather-compensation compatibility, and a 10-year guarantee as standard (12 years when fitted with an Intergas system filter). The Xtreme adds a colour display, pre-heat for faster hot water, integrated low-loss header and a 12-year guarantee on every model — it's the one we recommend most often for higher-demand homes. The Rapid is the entry-level option, still built around the same single heat exchanger, with a 7-year guarantee at a price point that competes with the cheapest Worcester or Ideal models. Across the whole range, ErP A-rated efficiency and modulation down to roughly 1:8 means lower gas bills on milder days.
