Baxi is one of the oldest names in British heating — founded in Preston in 1866 — and the modern range has quietly become some of the best mid-market value on the UK market. We fit Baxi most often where customers want a 10-year guarantee but don't want to pay Worcester or Viessmann money.

A genuinely British brand with proper pedigree

Baxi has been making heating appliances since 1866, when Richard Baxendale set up his foundry in Preston. The company is now part of BDR Thermea Group (which also owns Andrews Water Heaters and Remeha) and the boilers themselves are designed and engineered in the UK. For Lancashire customers, there's a real local-history angle — your dad or grandad might well have had a Baxi Bermuda back boiler, and the modern combi range is the great-great-grandchild of that same engineering tradition. Today's Baxi 600, 800 and Platinum ranges share a lightweight, compact aluminium heat exchanger, a clear front-mounted display and one of the easiest service-mode access procedures of any boiler we work on. From an installer's point of view, a Baxi swap is usually a fast, clean job — the wiring centre is sensibly laid out and the boiler genuinely fits in tight cupboards where some Worcester models won't.

600, 800 and Platinum — what's the difference?

The Baxi 600 is the entry point — 24, 30 and 36 kW combi outputs, a clear LCD display, 7-year guarantee and a very competitive price. We fit a lot of these for landlords and rental properties because the running costs are low and warranty cover is solid. The Baxi 800 steps up with a colour display, OpenTherm modulating control, Wi-Fi readiness via the uSense smart thermostat and a 10-year guarantee when fitted with a Baxi system filter. The 800 is, in our view, the sweet-spot of the entire UK market — you get genuine 10-year cover and smart-control compatibility for around £2,295 fully fitted. The Platinum is the flagship, with weather compensation as standard and a slightly beefier heat exchanger; it's a great choice for larger homes where the customer wants the longest possible warranty without stepping up to Viessmann or Worcester 8000 money.

Where Baxi shines (and where it doesn't)

Baxi is our default recommendation for budget-conscious customers who still want a serious 10-year guarantee, and for compact installations where a slimmer chassis matters. The 800 in particular punches well above its price. The trade-offs: the lightweight aluminium heat exchanger, while well-proven, won't last quite as long as Viessmann's stainless steel in hard-water areas, and the smart-thermostat ecosystem isn't as developed as Worcester's EasyControl. But for a typical 3-bed Chorley home where the customer plans to be there for 7 to 12 years, a Baxi 800 30 kW is genuinely hard to beat on value.
