Best Boiler Brands 2026 Ranked: Worcester, Viessmann, Ideal, Baxi & Vaillant
We install hundreds of boilers a year across Chorley and Lancashire — here's our honest 2026 ranking of the big five brands on reliability, warranty, parts availability and real-world running costs.
Every year homeowners ask us the same question: 'Which boiler should I actually buy?' The honest answer is that the 'best' boiler depends on your home, your water pressure, your budget and how long you plan to stay. But after fitting hundreds of units a year as boiler installers in Chorley, Preston and across Leyland, we see clear patterns in which brands give the fewest call-backs, the best warranty support, and the lowest lifetime running costs.
1. Viessmann — best overall (premium)
The Vitodens 100-W remains, in our view, the most reliable combi on the UK market. The stainless-steel Inox-Radial heat exchanger is essentially unmatched on longevity, and Viessmann's 12-year warranty (when fitted by an approved installer) is genuinely backed up — we've never had a claim refused. Downsides: trickier to source parts on a Saturday morning, and the price is 15–25% above an equivalent Worcester.
2. Worcester Bosch — best all-rounder
The Greenstar 4000 and 8000 Style remain Which? Best Buys for good reason. Parts availability is the best in the UK — every plumbers' merchant in Lancashire stocks the common spares — and Worcester's engineer network means a warranty visit usually happens within 48 hours. The 8000 is genuinely quiet (Quiet Mark certified) and looks the part if your boiler is on show in the kitchen.
3. Ideal — best value
The Ideal Logic Max is built in Hull and gives you a 10-year parts and labour warranty for several hundred pounds less than Worcester. Reliability has improved enormously since the 2018 redesign and we now fit these as our default 'budget' option for landlords and rental properties. The fan and PCB are the two parts most likely to fail around year 7–8, but both are inexpensive and stocked locally.
4. Baxi — strong British alternative
The Baxi 800 is built in Preston, comes with a 10-year warranty and is one of the most compact units on the market at 390mm wide — useful when you're swapping into a tight kitchen cupboard. The Easy-Fill filling link is a small touch homeowners genuinely appreciate. Slightly fewer independent engineers fit Baxi, so check warranty cover in your area before you commit.
5. Vaillant — quiet and refined
The ecoTEC Plus is a beautifully engineered German boiler with excellent modulation, meaning it sips gas on mild days. Warranty is typically 10 years on the Plus range. Our only hesitation is price-to-performance: at the same money you can usually get a Viessmann, which we'd marginally prefer.
Glowworm — honourable mention
Owned by Vaillant Group and built on similar internals, Glowworm offers Vaillant-grade reliability at Ideal-level pricing. The Energy Combi range is our go-to when a customer wants a 10-year warranty without paying premium money.
What we'd actually fit in our own homes
For a 3-bed semi with one bathroom: Worcester Greenstar 4000 30kW. For a 4-bed with two bathrooms: Viessmann Vitodens 100-W 35kW or a Worcester 8000 Style 35kW. For a rental property: Ideal Logic Max Combi 30 — strong warranty, low parts cost, easy for any engineer to service.
Whichever brand you pick, the install matters more than the badge. A premium boiler fitted badly will fail faster than a budget boiler fitted properly — magnetic filter, full chemical flush, correct gas pipe sizing and a TRV-balanced system are non-negotiable.
